Passing Rules & Run Groups

Rules of the Road and Track Etiquette

PASSING – Communication is extremely important to a safe and successful pass.  It is the responsibility of the driver that is doing the passing to make sure that it is done properly and safely.  The use of a Point By is strongly recommended and in some cases mandatory in order to make a pass.  It does not matter what level you are participating at, communication between drivers is key to a safe and successful track day.

“Point By” – This is the action that will allow you to communicate a pass on the track.  If you are the driver that is being passed, you will want to point the driver that is passing you to the side of the car that you want them to pass on.  Example: If you want the driver to pass you on the right side of your car, reach outside your window and point over the car's roof to the right.  If you want a driver to pass you on the left side of your car, simply point out your window to the left and let them by. If there are multiple cars that need to be pointed by, continue to point until all cars have completed the pass.  It is strongly recommended that you stay on line and allow the passing driver to go off line and around you.  Never sacrifice your line and safety to allow another driver to pass you.  When you are allowing someone to pass you always lift off of the throttle to allow the pass to happen as quickly as possible.
